Zhejiang University held a work conference to map out the Maternal and Child Health discipline reconstruction plan at Women's Hospital, School Of Medicine, Zhejiang University on March 16, 2018. The conference was hosted by Professor Xia Dajing, Deputy Director of the School of Public Health. Participants included Professor Chen Guangdi, Deputy Director of the School of Public Health, Professor Therese Hesketh, Director of the Center for Global Health at School of Medicine, Wu Hongping, Secretary of Party Committee at Women's Hospital, Dr. Wang Xinyu, Vice president of Women's Hospital, Dr. Qiu Liqian, Director of Women's Health Department, Dr. Zhuang Yaling, Deputy Director of Women's Health Department, Dr. Zhang Xiaohui, Project Management Officer, Dr. Shao Jie, Director of Child Health Care Department at the Children's Hospital Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Dr. Zhan Jianying, Deputy Director of Child Health Care Department. Professor Li Ying, Dr. Shen Xiaoyun and Zhu Yingying from the School of Public Health attended the conference as well.

 

Wu Hongping congratulated representatives from the School of Public Health on the successful opening of the conference. On behalf of Women's Hospital, Mr. Wu expressed his support for the discipline reconstruction plan and expected further cooperation of the three organizations. Dr. Qiu Liqian and Dr. Shao Jie reported the Women's Health Department's and Child Health Care Department's responsibilities, research areas and projects, respectively. Professor Chen Guangdi introduced the preliminary work of discipline reconstruction and policies related to degree programme construction, talent recruitment and graduate student enrollment. After presenting academic background and research projects, Professor Hesketh, Director of the Maternal and Child Health Discipline, shared her views on discipline reconstruction. Attendants thought highly of Professor Hesketh's contribution on the development of China's maternal and child health. With the help of Professor Hesketh's abundant research experience and international influence, the three organizations would work together to develop the maternity and child health discipline at Zhejiang University. Dr. Wang Xinyu fully affirmed and highly evaluated the reconstruction of maternity and child health discipline, and expected more high-quality collaborative research projects, favorable employment environment and promotion opportunities in the MCH department. With the goal of promoting the construction and development of maternal and child health discipline at Zhejiang University, the participants had a lively discussion on the work plan, in terms of discipline development mode, talent recruitment, student cultivation and research cooperation, in order to achieve a win-win situation.
