Prof. Kumagai's speech is entitled “Unique adaptive response to electrophilic stress” and hosted by Professor Naranmandura Hua. Prof. Kumagai introduced the double-edged effect of environmental electrophiles from the definition of RSS (reactive sulfur species). He indicate that high-dose exposure of electrophiles could attack all proteins sulfydryl indiscriminately and induce cytotoxicity, while low dose exposure could selectively activates low pKa sensor proteins, then promotes downstream protein transcription and protects against the stress.
At the end of the speech, Prof. Kumagai, Prof. CHEN Guangdi, Prof. Naranmandura and the participants had a hot discussion on how to make the balance of electrophiles in vivo. Professor Kumagai pointed out that everything has its double-edged effect, so we must find out a balanced point, avoid its harmful effects, and make a good use of its advantages to contribute to human health. Finally, he also introduced their team, shared their academic achievements and successful experience.
